Jack Robbins runs a successful coffee business and has a rescue Chihuahua named Chimichanga that hates women and loves to kiss him on the mouth. Susie McKenna has just opened a new tea shop next door that everyone is talking about which she runs with her over protective brother. Things get heated as the two begin competing for customers, and reach a new intensity when they both volunteer to help plan the downtown festival. But can a coffee lover and a tea devotee put aside the competition to find their happily ever after?
“Why does any man get into a fight? There are five reasons, really. Money. Power. Alcohol. Ego. Or women. Take your pick.”Harvey, Ch. 11
This is a cute romance that gives exactly what you’d expect. Two warring beverage shop owners need to find a way to work together and end up falling for each other. Sure there are hiccups along the way, and more than a dash of toxic masculinity at times, but it was still a cute relationship to get to watch blossom.
While I enjoyed my time in this world, there wasn’t really anything that stood out to me about this story. It was cute, for sure, but that’s about it. The world and characters were okay, but other than the occasional moment, nothing really stands out to me about this tale.
To be honest, my favourite part of this story was Chimichanga. I’m a sucker for a cute dog in any story, and when a pet has a personality it makes it even better to me. Chimichanga liking Susie right away was a cute addition to the story as Chimichanga is stated to notoriously dislike women. If your pet likes a person, chances are they’re going to be a good person. Pets are better judges of character than humans.
If you’re looking for a cute little read, then you might enjoy this one. I just personally prefer a little bit more meat to my stories.
